The inner dome, boasting a diameter of 20.44 meters, It holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving wooden structure of its kind. The inner dome is a captivating display of artistic mastery. Its wooden panels are adorned with a symphony of written inscriptions and intricate geometric decorations, One of the inscriptions encircling the apex is the celebrated Throne Verse from the Quran, known as Ayat al-Kursi. The second inscription is larger in size and commemorates the Ayyubid sultan Salah ad-Din. Salah ad-Din played a pivotal role in the recapture of Jerusalem from the Crusaders in 1187 and generously sponsored numerous restoration projects within the mosque.
